TP-Link AC1200 Gigabit Wireless Wi-Fi Router – Up to 25% Off!
After last week’s special feature on how to save on everything you buy (check that out here – it’s a must), we’re back to specific deals that are available right now.
You’ll notice that we’ve regularly featured products by Anker in the past – because they’re a young technology company making great products at great prices and with fantastic customer service.
Well, there’s two other companies which are similar, that we love just as much.
I’ll come back to the third one next week, as I’ve just ordered something from them and want to test it before recommending it, but this week we’re going to talk about TP-Link.
This company primarily makes Wi-Fi routers and modems.
Their range goes from really pretty cheap to expensive but they make a router to suit everyone.
I first came across them when I bought a tiny and low powered router that you can take with you and plug in to an Ethernet socket in a hotel room to create your own Wi-Fi network. Great if you’re travelling with iPad obsessed kids, I can tell you!
However, it was so good, that we used it permanently as a range extender in one of our bedrooms where we had a weak signal.
Then, about six months ago, I decided to bite the bullet and sort out the aging Wi-Fi set-up that we had all around our house. There were some spots where our Wi-Fi signal just didn’t reach and the main hub was struggling. We’d put up with it for years but enough is enough and with demanding internet generation kids, and given that I work in technology, I just couldn’t put it off any longer…!
As we’re in the UK, we get our internet at home from Sky, which works fine, but because of old telephone cable issues we had the Sky hub in the cellar! Not the smartest thing to do… Anyway, we’d had the foresight to run some ‘Cat 5’ cable to some parts of the house many years previously.
My solution was to go to the brand I trusted and buy two of these AC1200 routers.
Dang if that wasn’t the best decision I’ve made in years.
Amazon delivered and I plugged one in at the front and one in at the rear of the house to the Ethernet sockets that ran back to the Sky hub in the cellar. They synched to our Sky hub automatically and immediately we had dual band Wi-Fi in every part of the house.
The signal strength is so much more powerful than any router I’ve had before – I can even connect when I’m sitting outside in my car on the street!
This router has dual band which means there’s a signal that is faster but travels less far and one that is less strong but reaches further. Both seem to be fast enough and reach far enough for all my family to connect. And that includes streaming 4k to two different TVs at the same time on occasion.
What else is there to say about a router?
So far it’s been 100% reliable and we can’t see how you’d need to spend more than this.
TP-Link are officially our favourite brand of router and we recommend them wholeheartedly.
This AC1200 is currently on offer at Amazon for more than a third off – that is great value.
