Top Tips for Creating Storage in iOS

If you’re anything like me, you’ll just love cramming your iOS device with music, videos and photographs. And with the iCloud storage limit being only 5GB, we need all the help we can get to create and manage the storage we have, so here are our top tips for doing just that:

First you will need to know how much storage you’re using. To do this, go to Settings>General>Usage and here you will see at the top how much storage you are using and how much is available. Underneath that you can select Manage Storage which will show you how much storage apps are using, which may be surprising for some, and this can help you to decide what is more valuable to you (the app, or the storage space it’s taking up).

1. Delete Apps You’re Not Using

Sounds simple, but every few weeks I realise I still have various apps I’ve downloaded and am not using, so it’s very simple to delete these by holding your finger down on the app on the home screen until they wobble and you can select the X to delete the app.

2. Delete Content from Old Messages

Unless you really want to keep them, deleting old message threads is probably the best tip we can give you because it’s where the motherload of storage is hiding. All you have to do is go into messages & click edit, and delete all threads you no longer need.

3. Delete Old Voicemails

This is often overlooked, but basically the key to having more storage is to delete everything you don’t actually need to hold on to.

4. Clear Internet History

It’s also worth clearing your internet history every once in a while to free up some additional space. To do this, go to Settings>Safari>Clear History
