Yesterday saw some seriously exciting announcements from Google Wallet about the app for iOS and Android making it so much easier to manage gift cards, and to receive and send from Debit cards.
If you have ever bought anything from Google Play or from other Google products, you will already have a Google Wallet account.
The app will now allow users to store, redeem and find out about their gift card balance. It’s really easy to use – all you have to do is take a picture of your giftcards (or type in the card info) and show it to the clerk/cashier in-store.
For now, the ability to check your gift card balance is restricted to the following partners:
- AMC
- Nike
- BestBuy
- Sephora
- ToysRUs
- Wholefoods
In addition to this a number of storecards will have a”Save to Google” button for digital gift cards, enabling single click adding of the card to Google Wallet.
Using both Google Wallet and Gmail will enable users to now send and request money from debit cards for free (as long as the receiver is over 18.
