How To Leave Android for iPhone And Move All Your Data

January 7, 2016

47 million iPhones have been sold in the last quarter. Some of those buyers have to be people changing up from their Android devices and entering the world of Apple’s iOS as the new iPhone 6S has a lot to offer.

But users of Google’s Android devices have saved a wealth of useful information in their smartphones. How the hell are they going leave Android for iPhone to get all that precious data across in to their shiny new iPhones?

Seems like all that would be a time consuming chore! Most people with years of use invested in the old devices would probably stay put just to avoid setting it all up again.

Well it’s no longer the proverbial pain you’d thought it was.

There are a few online services that will help you with the migration, but the simplest way to do it now is with Apple’s new App for Android devices – Move to iOS.

The new app from Apple basically auto-migrates all of your Android devices key content. Primarily your contacts, email accounts, message history, camera roll, bookmarks, and calendars.

First of all make sure your Android phone and your iPhone is connected to a power supply and the internet over Wi-Fi.

Also you should check to make sure your iPhone has enough space for the content you plan to move, and don’t forget that also includes your Android’s micro SD card. Another thing to sort is make sure you have the latest version of Chrome on your Android device.

Before you start the migration you must first install the Move to iOS app (download the Move to iOS app here) on to your old Android device (it has to have Android 4.0 installed or later). In your new iPhone, (anything from a 5 up) it needs to be iOS 9 running.

So on your new iPhone commence setting it up. For those that have an iPhone with content already on it, then you will need to erase everything on it. find out more on that here.

So follow these steps:

Follow the instructions to start setting up your new iPhone.

After you have setup the Touch ID, you’ll see the Apps & Data screen.

Here you will se the option to Move Data from Android.

Now open the Move to iOS app on your Android.

Hit Continue when the app launches, agree to terms and conditions, then hit ‘Next’ in the top-right corner of the Find Your Code screen.

Back on your iPhone, hit ‘Continue’ on the Move from Android screen.

A code will then appear on your iPhone,  just enter that on your Android.

A Transfer Data screen will appear on your Android phone.

On your Android, select the content you’d like to transfer and hit ‘Next’.

The transfer process has begun, So leave both devices alone until the loading bar on your iPhone shows you that the process has ended.

Now hit ‘Done’ on your Android and then hit ‘Continue’ on your iOS device and follow the further instructions to complete your iPhone setup.

The next thing you should do is make sure all your content you want has been successfully transferred. If some items are missing, then you have to then move that content manually. (More here on that!).

Your Apps

Now head over the the Apple App store and find, and re-download all the apps that you had on your Android phone.

Welcome to the world of Apple!

And here’s a video from Gadget Hacks taking you through the process.
